Online Life has a self-moderating system. On top of this, Online Life have Post Moderators who can edit and delete posts and threads, Member Moderators who can suspend and ban members, and Item Moderators who review, approve, edit and delete items.

Each member gets a bit of moderating power - the maximum moderating power that a member can get is 1, although staff can have higher moderating power. Members get a higher moderating power when other members rate their posts higher, and also based on the number of posts they make etc. Members with less than 100 posts (or 1000 chats in relation to chat rooms) can only rate posts up.

When another member posts something that breaks our rules, as listed in our Terms of Services, other members can moderate it by rating it down - once the thread or post rating hits -2, the thread or post will disappear (becomes buried). Members can still see buried posts as they can be made visible via a link in a thread. Members can also still see buried threads by going to the Threads tab, and clicking on the Buried filter.

As a result, 2 members with Moderating Power of 1.00 have the power to bury threads or posts with a rating each. However, usually, it requires a few members to rate a thread or post down before it is buried.

Chats that are rated down do not get buried but they do disappear from view with time.

Members who choose to rate a thread have their thread rating shown at the top of the thread. Individual posts also show the rating and member who rated the post. To see the complete rating of an individual post and who rated it, click on the word "score" at the bottom of the post whose rating you wish to see. All ratings are recorded with the rating given by each member who rates the post.

You can also choose to retract or change your rating. To retract your rating, just click on the rating arrow again, and this will remove your rating. To change your rating, just click on the other rating arrow.

Rating another member's thread, post or chat down will affect their reputation level.

Using swear words in posts or chat will also affect the reputation level. A swear word picked up by the filter will cause a 1 point drop in the members reputation itself in addition to also possibly rated down by others as a whole.

If a member has a reputation of less than -50 (that is, over 50 posts or chats of this member has been marked down to -1.00 level), then this member will no longer be able to chat in the avatar chat rooms. Once the reputation gets higher than -50 (if the member makes more posts in the other forums which gets rated up), the member will get access to the avatar chat rooms again.

If a member has a reputation of less than -100 (that is, over 100 posts of this member has been marked down to -1.00 level), then this member will no longer be able to chat in the avatar chat rooms or post in the following 4 forums, which tend to be the serious debate forums:
Serious Stuff
Politics
Faith
Recovery
Once the reputation gets higher than -100 (if the member makes more posts in the other forums which gets rated up), the member will get access to the above forums again.

If a member has a reputation of less than -200 (that is, over 200 posts of this member has been marked down to -1.00 level), then this member will only be able to post in the Idle Chit Chat forum. Once the reputation gets higher than -200 (if the member makes more posts in the other forums which gets rated up), the member will get access to ALL forums except the 4 serious ones above, until their cumulative post rating gets above -100.

If a member has a reputation of less than -400 (that is, over 400 posts of this member has been marked down to -1.00 level), then this member will no longer be able to post in ALL forums. If the members available posts get rated up so that the reputation get higher, then access will be granted again.

So remember, rating a thread, post or chat is serious business, so think before you rate, especially if you are going to rate a thread, post or chat down.
